St. Michael's Cemetery sign

St. Michael's Cemetery is a large, flat, cemetery located at 2205 Stratford Avenue in Stratford, Connecticut. (St. Michael's contains at least 65,000 burials.) The oldest burials date to the mid-19th century, and a significant majority of those interred here are of Italian ancestry (followed by a large number of Irish descent). What the cemetery lacks in grandeur, it makes up for with hidden charm; although there are only a few family mausoleums and ostentatious monuments, there are many, simpler, memorials with unique design and striking detail, often accompanied by touching photographs of the deceased.

Estimated number of interments, as of January 2024: at least 64,844.

Photos were taken 17 November 2008 and 10 June 2022.

the ladies' auxiliary of the Woodmen of the World.
